Thursday Portrait.....

See those three old guys sitting together? This was our 40th year as season ticket holders!
Our first year together was 1973, we were Seniors and we have had 6 tickets together
ever since. To the left is My friend Dave, he is retired from GM as a Pipefitter. The white
haired gentleman is Phil, he is an Attorney in Lansing of all places. And the fellow to
the right, well he is still schlepping Chevy's in Fenton Michigan.
I always wondered if I would go to games till I died in my seat, or what would precipitate
me giving up my seat. Well, between the escalating cost of the tickets, our advancing age,
the increasing amount of games starting at 3:30 because of TV. This was our last game as
season ticket owners. After 40 years and roughly 255 games together, we are passing
the torch to those that have been on a waiting list for years. As an Alumni, I can usually
get a ticket to any game I want anyway, so that's the plan. It was very bittersweet to sit and
watch this game knowing that after FOUR Decades we would bring this fantastic party to
an end as a group. I really don't expect any of you to understand how this tears out my old
heart by even writing this post. It was such a part of all of our lives for years, but all good
things must come to an end, and I'll now have the enjoyment of watching Michigan play
from my easy chair. Enough of my maudlin, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!!
Hope to see you Thursday Night 8:00 PM EST....

Of course you'll miss such good friends for so many years- nice memories but sad now. Merry day to you anyway!

Not any fun at all, but as you say, all good things do wear out and move on--at least the friendship and the memories stay on. Best of New Years to you, G.

Wow, things in Ann Arbor must be worse than I thought. . .

Seriously, all good things come to an end, fersure. I'm sure the waiting-list types are duly grateful for what you've bequeathed to them, even if they have no idea how the precious ducats came to them. And bless your heart. . .

Hugs, it's hard to give up something so special. Hopefully it makes room for a new way to celebrate friendship.

Awww...sorry Galen. You're right, I don't really get it, but I can respect it and try to empathize. There are a lot of cheeseheads around here that have the same feeling for some other team I will not mention, so as not to cause you any more pain. I hope you enjoy many more games from your new 'best seat in the house.' Happy New Year.

i know you well enough to know that friendships and traditions matter to you very deeply. i also know you;ll find a way to stay connected to both even if it's not as a season ticket holder. nonetheless, here's a hug, my friend.
