Detroit Auto Show Part 2.........
Hi Everybody...Well I promised you all pics from the North American Auto Show going on in Detroit this week, and I do actually have a couple of car pix, but once again one of my obsessions took a hold of me and I got a bit sidetracked..
The car event is being held in a grand old arena called Cobo Hall. It's a huge complex down by the river, and parking is crazy. The best thing to do is to park in a great 'touristy' area called GreekTown. That is also part of the 'casino area' in Mo-Town..
Anyway, in GreekTown there is a huge casino there that is always hopping, and you can catch a mono-rail to Cobo Hall and other down-town attractions.
The sleek silver car in the first pic is that of the all-electric new GM car called the Volt!!
It is still officially in the prototype stage, but the word is that GM is going to produce the vehicle. The yellow Camaro with a shadowy figure blocking part of the view, is the 2009 Chevy Camaro.
This car was also a prototype car, but they are actually going to build it. In May of 2007, the last Monte-Carlo rolled off the line in Oshawa Ontario, not too far from the legendary homes of Tim Horton, and Lisa Caplan. And that is where they are building the Camaro.
.
OK, enough about cars....In GreekTown, there is by far THE finest pastry shop in the state, the Astoria!!! Feast your eyes on just a small sampling of their fabulous wares!!!
Those curled and rolled deep fried things, are crunchy and decadant. The shredded wheat baklava's are to die for. And those 'Bird-Nests' are stuffed with pistachio's...
Between me and Alex, we spent about 40 bucks on peace offerings to our respective spouses..
It Worked !!!...Hahaha...
.
The name of that pastry shop reminded me of a famous poem ....
"There once was a nympho named Gloria,
Who married Sir Gerald de Moria...
She screwed him and the best-man..
Then Sir Gerald again...
And the whole staff at the Waldorf Astoria!!!
.
Ahhh, I love the classics... Peace!

Ooooooh yahhhh.
Sweet cars, dessert, and a dirty limerick.
Life doesn't get much better than this!

It's good to see Detroit do something innovative like the Volt and the Camaro, even if it was a bit late and kind of a copy, respectively. Style is great, but it needs to follow quality and reliability.
Those overpaid execs are either going to have to let the engineers do their thing, and quit looking at only this year's bottom line, or get used to the fact that the Japanese are kicking our manufacturing butts.
Between all of our shortsightedness (management's & labor's and the Bush family's,) we could easily end up bringing down the entire world's economy.
Gee, the photo of the shredded wheat had me mystified, until your explanation that it was baklava.
Nice cars, and truly decadent looking baklava. I can see why all that sweetness provoked you to, um, poetry. Hope it tasted as good as it looks.:)
i haven't had my breakfast yet and i am DYING for some of those pastries!
I love cars, Galen. I saw that silver car and it was love at first sight...
Now I'm going to be daydreaming about driving it all day. ;)

I love the picture of the Camero because I like the view :)
They aren't going to continue to make the Monte Carlo anymore? OMG!!! That is my favorite car of all times.
Great pics! I like the food pics way better than the open toed shoes, I have a thing about feet, I basically can't stand feet.

Oh my, Greektown is to die for although I have never found that shop you mentioned. It looks wonderful. And there is the Volt again. I suppose I should go drool over it...
I just saw the Transformers so I also got to see the bumblebee. What a sexy looking car. I think I could get in some real trouble in that car. Didn't you make a run down to Ohio for some libation before. Now you could do that run in style.
Looks like I have missed a lot by not seeing the Auto Show.
That stuff made me gain lbs just LOOKING at it. What a nice place to spend some time :)
