Galen Haynes.? You're Still Alive..? .....

Hi everybody!!!! I hope you had a wonderful week-end.
I sure did!!
Last night was our graduating class's 40th Reunion.
I wasn't going to go, but on Friday night there was a Pre-Reunion get together and I had such a great time that I decided to attend Saturday night as well.
WOW!!!! Am I glad I went....What an awesome time!!!
One thing about reunions is, the years have been GREAT to some class-mates, but very rough on others. Also you can't lament about how successful some people are, and gloat about the plight of the ones who have had a harder time.
The bald guy in the picture beneath me is Don Dicker.
Don and I were great friends all through Jr. High and High School. We were the 2 smartest Under-Achievers in school. I went to college, he sold cars. In the 70's he moved to California, became a huge car dealer, and eventually sold 5 stores including an Audi, a Mercedes Benz store,
a BMW, and a Chevy store....How much $$$$$ do you think he's worth? It doesn't matter, he hugged me and started jabberin like it was yesterday!
The girl below him is Patsy Edwards, she owns 2 gift shops in Jacksonville Fla.!
The pic with the 3 chicks below that? The one on the right is Debbie Golden, her daughter graduated with my daughter from the same high school, she is a Therapist. The one in the middle is Mary Ann Sullivan, she lived on my street and we have known each other since Kindergarten. The Girl on the left is Kathy Fromholtz, she owns a business in Hollister California. But check her out....She fricken looks 30!!!!!!!
The next pic is of Judy Holley, I've also known her all my life as well, and she was always so beautiful inside and out.
The last pic is of my old friend Tom Dewey, his mother was my Den Mother in the Cub Scouts!
She is still alive, and still lives in the same house..
.
.
1968 was a very tumultuous year in History.....
1..The My-Lai massacre took place in Viet Nam.
2..Martin Luther King was shot.
3..Bobby Kennedy was shot.
4. The Chicago Riots took place.
5. Congress passed a law making it a crime to desecrate the flag
6..Richard Nixon was elected President.
7..The 911 call was first introduced.
8..The end of the .05 cent Hershey Bar.
9..The Detroit Tigers won the World Series under the last year of the old format before the playoff system was implemented.
10..War protesting abounded EVERYWHERE!!!!!
Because of all this tumult and uncertainty, we were thrown together. We had no idea when the War was going to end. Racial tension was overwhelming. Revolution was in the air!!!!
So when you don't see some folks for 40 years, your heart soars when memories are rekindled!!
We sang the Colt Fight Song...
Danced to Motown..
Toasted our friends that are no longer with us..
Ogled the 'Wallflowers' that blossomed into beautiful women..
Cried over the ones that turned Very Grandmotherly..
.
For one Magical Night we were all 18 again.... And Loving It!!!
.
It was "Yummy Yummy Yummy"!!
.
Peace...Brother's and Sisters!!!!!

Ode to Homeboy 55.........

Like an ethereal mist, the hickory smoke wafts through the thick August air.
An aromatic essence beckons you with it's Siren-Like song....

Curse you 'Smokin Larry'!!!!!!
Curse your Culinary Wizardry!!!!!
Helpless.....It's drawing me near.
"Gaaaaaalennnnn"
There it is!! That bastion of tangy temptation!
The Valhala of Barbecue Succulence!

.
Hi everybody, see that box of rib tips? 6 Bucks!
The Beef Brisket Sandwich with any side ( I chose Beans) 4.99!!!!!
This place is me and my best friend Alex's favorite rib joint..
It deserves much more praise than a cheesy 55 word tribute..
Maybe it deserves a double 55 word tribute...Which it just GOT!!!!!
.
.
If you or anyone you know has a 55 posted, please come tell the G-Man.
I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, then BOOK!!!
Have a Great Week-End Everybody.
Peace...!!!

Thursday Portrait.......

Poor Reese...While riding a friends bike, the chain broke and he went a flying on the cement.
Road-rash on the right arm, bruises on the hip, fractured left wrist. That could be devastating for an 18 year old boy!
See ya all tomorrow for Friday Flash 55...
Peace!!!!

Upon closer examination, the address in the corner made my old heart flutter..
YAY!!!!!! My U/M season football tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Non football fans, you have to understand something. Me and my 2 buddies have been going to U/M football games since college. We have had THE same seats since 1976. Bo was the coach.
His 2 succsessors since 1989 were both Bo disciples.
This is a newly renovated stadium.
This is a new coach with a new coaching philosophy.
We now have different seats in exactly the opposite side of the stadium.
Out with the OLD...In with the New!!!!
Go Blue!!!!!!!!!

Hi everybody....Did you miss me?
I had probably the most moving vacation of my life this past week-end.
After getting my boring work related BS over with, I had a few days of 'down time'.
One of the G-Mans favorite things to do in this country, is to visit historical sites. Preferably Civil War battle sites. The most powerful and moving place anyone can go to is Gettysburg Pa. That is definately hollowed ground. That is where the union of the United States was preserved in blood. But thats a different story.....
I've been to Harpers Ferry, where the seeds of impending bloodshed were first planted...
I've been to Mannasas (Bull Run) where the first major battle of the Civil War was fought..
I've been to Antietam, where more Americans were killed in one day than in any battle in ANY war, EVER!!!!!!!
But I had never gone to where the slaughter finally ended , and peace returned in America.
Appomattox Virginia.
After a beautiful and breathtaking drive through the Virginia countryside, Appomattox is hardly a tourist trap. It is quaint, lovely, and very interesting. It cost 8 bucks to get in, and there are a few Rangers giving Historical presentations, but like everything in the US Park Service these days, they are strapped for cash. So this was mostly a self-guided tour.
The actual Treaty was signed at a place called The McLean House, here's a pic of the inside and outside. A little further up the path was a house that had been historicaly preserved, there appeared to be a young man giving a dramatic and and touching account of his plight and role during the War. When his presentation was over several people approached him and asked him a few questions, he answered them but seemed a bit perplexed by several questions, he never came out of character...NOT ONCE!! After walking to the next site I glanced back toward the porch where he had been standing, and he was gone....
I asked a Ranger when the young man would be giving his next performance, and he said " What Performance?..We can't afford performers, we only have Ranger Guided lectures. And what young man are you speaking of ?"....Hmmmmmmmmmm
Anyway, This particular week-end was like the frosting on the cake for me and my little hobby.
This was just a harbinger of what my retirement will be like in a short few years...Doing what brings me serenity. Doing what I like doing for fun. Doing what gives me peace and joy. I never much thought about retirement up till now, but it is looking more and more appealing with each passing day.
One final thought about Appomattox....The entire time I was there, a soulful refrain kept repeating itself over and over and over again again in my brain.....
.
"The night they drove Old Dixie down, all the bells were ringing..
The night they drove Old Dixie down, all the people were singing....
Na na na na na na na...Na na na nun na na na naaaa........"
.
Peace....?
.
Mojo.....I'll address your award later this week....Thanks
