Retro-Wednesday.....

I can see that Ole Schicklegruber wasn't very interesting. hehehe, sorry folks.
Anyway, after WWII The USA out of guilt for nuking Japan, helped them get back on their feet by buying all kinds of cheaply made crap that they manufactured and shipped our way. It was kind of a running joke about shit "Made In Japan"! Now they are a symbol of high quality! (And Recall Cover-Ups)
This 'Lil Indian Boy' has been in my toy arsenal since about 1958. You wind the key on the side, and it hops across the surface thats it's sitting on. It still works GREAT! "Made In Japan"......

Peace...!!!

TMI Tuesday.....

A Mr. Marty Borrman from Buenos Aires Argentina asks...

" Dear Mr. Knowitall, I know that Adolph Hitler had his moments, but surely there must be some things about Der Fuhrer that wasn't all evil."

Dear Marty....

'There ARE a few things about Hitler that might not be well known, and don't call me Shirley!'

HITLER FUN FACTS...

*Hitler never let anyone see him naked or bathing.
*Hitler never used cologne or after shave.
*Hitler was a vegetarian, and because of it he was plagued by terrible flatulence!
*Hitler never took his coat off in public, no matter how hot it was.
*Hitler loved Wagner so much that he would blither on and on about him for hours on end until people sometimes fell asleep.
*Hitler was lousy at sports, his only excercise was an occassional stroll.
*Hitler loved the circus, he thought they were risking their lives just to please him.
*In 1933 he sent all of the women performers in the circus that was in Berlin, expensive chocolates and flowers. He also kept tabs on them after the circus left town..Concerned about their safety!
*Hitler didn't like circus animal acts, unless it involved putting women in danger.
*Hitler watched a movie every night. Mostly foreign films Banned to the German Public!
*Hitler Loved newsreels, ESPECIALLY if he was in them.
*Along with Wagner, Hitler loved Gypsy music, American College Alma Maters, and American collegiate fight songs.

G-Man's Deli.........

Hi Everybody...
Here's hoping you had a Kick Ass Week-End!
I've been meaning to attempt to make some homemade Pastrami.
Upon researching the subject, it appeared that the marinade or brine for both Corned Beef and Pastrami was very similar. So why not use a store bought Corned Beef? I waited until they went on sale for St. Patty's Day, and I bought a couple of briskets for 1.99 a pound. The primary difference between the two deli-treats is that Pastrami is smoked, and it does not use pickling spices. The spices that was used for this recipe' rested upon the use of Smoked Paprika, fresh cracked Black Pepper, and Coriander.
1. Take the brisket and trim most of the fat.
2. Sprinkle VERY generously the Smoked Paprika and the other spices.
3. Wrap with FIVE layers of aluminum foil!
4. Bake in oven for 5 hours at 240 degrees.
5. Let cool at room temp.
6. Put in fridge for at least 12 hours.
VOILA!!!!!!!!

I also decided to try a turkey breast in the same manner.
It Worked GREAT, and it was surprisingly moist!!
I'm having a few fellas over today for a late lunch , and I thought that Pastrami or Turkey on Rye, would be mighty tasty. I also made a creamy Pasta, Red Pepper, and Cheese salad, along with a sweet and sour Red Cabbage, Beet, and Red Onion slaw!
Needless to say, I don't need to cook or buy lunch until at least Wednesday.

Thursday Portrait.....

As our good friend and Poet Laureate of Bloggerville... Walking Man, pointed out in my previous post, my sunglasses looked a tad feminine. What did I know in 1979, I was listening to Donna Summer?
Now nestled safely in the 21st Century, I've become a Ray-Ban Man!
My everyday glasses with progressive lenses are Ray-Bans.
I still have my Tortoise Shell Wayfarer Ray Bans..
But the 3rd pic is of me wearing my newly aquired Oakleys!
Some forgetful customer who was in my office over 6 Months ago left them, and in my opinion the grace period is OVER!!
OAKLEY THERMONUCLEAR PROTECTION!!!
Free Is Good...It All Adds up, hehehehehehe.
You know what I'm thinking don't you?

TMI Tuesday....

A Mr. Richard Fader from Ft. Lee New Jersey asks....

"Dear Mr. Knowitall, Where have all the philosophers gone?"
In your opinion, what are some of the most complex mysteries confronting us today"?

Dear Richard, "What is the meaning of life"? Has nothing on these conundrums...

* Do hungry crows have ravenous appetites?
* If a lawyer can be disbarred, and a clergyman defrocked... Can electricians be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, and tree surgeons disembarked?
* When cheese gets it's picture taken, what does it say?
* Why is brassiere singular, and panties plural?
* Why are builders afraid to have a 13th floor, but book publishers aren't afraid to have a Chapter 11?
* If a word is misspelled in a dictionary, how would we know?
* Why is it that writers write, but grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham?
* Why do 'slow down', and 'slow up', mean the same thing?
* Why doesn't onomatopoeia sound like what it is?
* Why do 'fat chance', and 'slim chance' mean the same thing?
* If humans evolved from monkeys and apes..Why do we still have monkeys and apes?
* How can weather be 'Hot as Hell' one day..And 'Cold as Hell' another?
* Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
* Why don't you ever see this headline.."Psychic Wins Lottery"???
* Why is it called lipstick, if you can still move your lips?
* When you 'Lose your Temper', shouldn't that mean you get happy?
* If someone is deceased, did they just come back from the dead?
* How do you get off a non-stop flight?
* If Blind people wear dark glasses, why don't deaf people wear ear muffs?

See Richard...Important questions are still being debated!
Good Question...Thanks.
Mr. Knowitall grows weary from all that important thinking...
See you tomorrow...
Peace...!!!

Retro Wed-Thur.........

Hi Everybody...
This is gonna have to be TWO posts in one. My Retro Wednesday, and my Thursday Portrait. The reason?

**ROAD TRIP**

The beer that I'm holding is a Stroh's Bohemian Style Beer!
It used to be the pride of Detroit, but ever since they were bought out by Pabst Brewery in 2000, this beer is only brewed at the discretion of Pabst. The little pub that I frequent, now carries it. I will say this, since it is now brewed in Milwaukee, it just doesn't taste the same as when it was brewed with DEEEtroit River water!
Anyway...I'm sooo excited! Wednesday Morning about 5 AM I'm headed to the Beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia. I will not post until I post my 55 at 8:00 PM Thursday Evening. I Need A Break!
Take Care Everyone...G-Man!

TMI Tuesday.....

A Mr. Nada Peckerwood from Flacid Lake Illinois asks...

'Dear Mr. Knowitall, last night my wife told me that I have no lead in my pencil!
Do they still put lead in pencils'?

Dear Mr. Peckerwood...Not Anymore!

The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians used small lead disks for drawing guidlines on papyrus before writing and painting with brushes and ink.
Rods of lead, silver, and zinc were also used to make light drawings, but that changed in 1564 when a huge graphite deposit was discovered in Borrowdlae England.
Using graphite to draw wasn't new. Long before Columbus, the Aztecs used graphite for much of their art. They took the graphite, and carved pointed 'marking stones' out of it. The problem was that they marked the writer's hands as much as what they were drawing or writing. Eventually that problem was solved by wrapping string around the sharpened stones, and unwrapping the string as the points wore down.
That was the first version of the modern pencil!
And speaking of the modern pencil, I bet you're wondering how the graphite gets into the wooden casing aren't you?
* First the graphite is ground up and mixed with a fine clay. The more clay that is added...The harder the lead!
* Then the mixture is forced through an 'extruder' to make a long thin rod.
* The rod is then fired at a temperature of 2200 degrees F to harden, and then treated with wax for smooth writing.
* The wood is sawed into small boards that are the length of one pencil, the width of seven pencils, and the thickness of a half a pencil.
* Seven tiny grooves are cut lengthwise. Then the lead is laid into each of the grooves, and an identical board is glued on top. Finally a machine cuts the board into seven individual pencils. A Non-Toxic paint is applied, and VOILA!!

Good question Limpy!

Mr. Knowitall grows weary...
So always remember, You can lead a horse to water-But a pencil must be lead!
(Or graphite :P)
Peace...!!!

Lazy Day.....

Hi Everybody...
Hope you all had a Kick Ass Week-End!!
As a child, one of my favorite treats that my Granny made was Fried Mush.
I think it's funny that with all of the Latin American fusion in today's culture, corn meal mush is now called...Polenta!
Sounds like a Spanish Hooker!
The night before you want Fried Mush for breakfast...
In a sauce pan, boil 3 cups of water. When it comes to a boil add 1 cup of yellow corn meal. When it starts to bubble, stir with a wisk, cover, and let sit for 15 minutes. Pour into a bread tin, cover with plastic wrap, and set in fridge overnight. In the morning turn the tin upside down, the hardened mush should pop right out. Slice into 1/2 inch slices, dredge lightly in flour, fry in your oil or grease of choice on medium heat about 8 minutes on each side or until Golden Brown.
Serve with butter and maple syrup...TO DIE FOR!!!!
I made bacon and eggs with mine!
I have a short work week coming up...details later.
Enjoy YOUR week...
Peace...!!!

Retro-Wednesday.....

Do this for me.
Look around you, anything that you can pick up by hand, check out the bottom. A coffee cup, a ball point pen, an ash tray, ANYTHING plastic.
Does it say Made in China? Made in Indonesia...Philipines...Thailand?
I've had this flashlight since the 60's. It's metal, the lens is real glass, and it says Made In USA! And it STILL works!!
How many flashlights have you ever bought at The Dollar General? WalMarks? The Dollar Tree...Do they work?
Nuff said!!
BTW, how about that Eisenhower Silver Dollar?
I ask for them at the bank, it really fucks up a cash drawer.
Hehehehehe...I'm such a naughty boy!
Peace...!!!

TMI Tuesday...

A Mr. Robert Segar from Ann Arbor Michigan asks...

"Dear Mr. Knowitall, I'm sort of a Ramblin Gamblin Man, and I've done a lot of travelling across the USA. Every where I go people say to me...'Hey buddy, you must be from Michigan'! How do people know this? Does it show? This freaks me out, and I'd like to know what gives me away. Can you help"?

Dear Bob...With a little help from Jeff Foxworthy, Of Course I Can!!!

* If you have worn shorts AND a coat at the same time...You might live in Michigan!
* If your local Dairy Queen is closed from Nov-March...You might live in Michigan!
* If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling a hole in 18 inches of ice and waiting for a fish to swim by...You just might live in Michigan!
* If your town has an equal number of bars and churches...You might live in Michigan!

And here are a few Sure Fire indicators that you are a MICHIGANDER...
* You and several of your friends, have hit a deer with a car...MORE THAN ONCE!
* You have often switched from 'air' to 'heat' on the same day!
* You can drive 65 MPH thru 2 feet of snow during a blizzard...Without flinching!
* You carry jumper cables in your car, and your girlfriend knows how to use them!
* Your kid's Halloween costume is designed to fit over a snowsuit!
* Driving is MUCH better in the Winter because all of the pot-holes are filled with snow!
* You know all 4 Seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Construction!
* You are unaware that there is a LEGAL drinking age.
* A Brat is something that you eat!
* Down South to you means Ohio!
* Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new Pole Barn!
* Last years 4th of July picnic was moved inside due to frost!
* You have more miles on your snow blower than you do your car!
* You drink Pop, and bake with Soda!
* Your Doctor tells you to drink Vernors, and you know it's NOT medicine!
* You can actually drink a Vernors without sneezing!
* You know what a Yooper is.
* You know thats it's possible to live in a Thumb!
* You know that when visiting Detroit...Pack the Kevlar Vest!

I could go on and on Bob, but Mr. Knowitall grows weary...
Good Question though....Now Get Out of Denver!

Peace...!!!

Here Comes The Sun.....

Hi Everybody...

I was tired of beef.
I was tired of pork.
I was tired of chicken.
I was tired of Curry.
I went to a local food chain by the name of VG's.
They have Top Notch fresh seafood.
There I picked up some beautiful wild caught Salmon filets.
I also bought a butternut squash.
And I had a hankerin for some REAL Pesto!

The top pic are the ingredients for the pesto. But I still had a problem with paying 4.99 for ONE measly ounce of pine nuts. So I bought slivered almonds.
I also bought some imported fusilli pasta for the Pesto.
I peeled the Butternut and cut them into steak fry size. I then marinated them in olive oil, parsley, basil, garlic, garam masala, and Himalayan Sea Salt!
The Salmon I slathered 100% Maple Syrup all over it, and then sprinkled the last of my Apple Smoked sea Salt, and my genuine Hungarian Papryka on it.
I had a bunch of fresh asparagus left, so before I popped the Salmon in the oven, I laid them all over salmon.
35 minutes at 375...The fish was Perfect!
55 minutes at 375 for the squash...Perfect
The Pesto Fusilli....Perfect!
A Sunny Sunday 48 degree's....Almost Perfect!
Have a Kick Ass Week Kiddies....;
Peace...!!!

"Month's without sunshine, and sliding and slippin.
Cases of empties from booze you've been sippin.
Winters still clinging by barely a string.
Please go away we are missing the Spring!

...Slushy freezing, coughing sneezing.
Gray is depressingly sad.
That soon will be over,
we'll be rolling in clover,
And then we won't feeeeeel so bad!!!"

The Hills are alive Baby... Bring It ON!!
