See You In September......

Happy Holidays Everyone...!!!
Hats off to all of us that are still working or are retired from work!!
I hope you all are having a Great 3 or 4 day Week-End..
Saturday started off beautiful..Sunny and 89.
The 1st pic is the walk up to The Big House.
The next pic is my view of the field from my new seats after having sat in the same seats for 32 years on the other side..It is now 1 hour before game time!
The 3rd pic is the stadium at game time with 108,000 people in the stands.
After the National Anthem, four F-16 Fighters zoomed the stadium, each jet was piloted by U/M Grads..
That is all that I want to say about the game... Grrrrr!
Sunday was a much better day!
My daughter and her boyfriend stopped by for brunch, and in one of those rare times, all my family was at a table for a meal. I forgot to take a pic of Brunch cause I was too busy preparing home-made pecan waffles with 100% pure Canadian Maple Syrup, eggs over easy, toast, and bacon with fresh sliced tomatos for delicious BLT's..
For dinner, I didn't feel like standing over a hot grill, so I made a crab and shrimp boil!! Fresh mussels, shrimp, crab legs, smoked sausage, redskin potatos, beautiful corn on the cob, all boiled together with Zatarans Crab and Shrimp Boil. ( I like it better than Old Bays ).
And after dinner we had a bonfire in the back yard...
The end of Summer...
Reese starts college on Tuesday...
Where does the time go????

Retro Wednesday.....

Hi Everybody.....
This is what all us Baby-Boomers had shoved in our face at every event and family function before the day of the Video Camera. It was a Brownie wind-up 8 mm movie camera. You wound it up and a timer on the side told you approx how many minutes of film you had left to shoot.
This is from about 1961...It still works!
Oh...Do you like that fine imported Meakin China in the background?..hehehe Thats a very interesting story on how I obtained that...Another Time.

Political Potpourri.......

Hi Everybody....
I try not to talk about either politics or religion, but in light of the upcoming convention and election, certain observations just can't be helped.
Thanks to my friends Tom and Lynnie, for sending me these great pics..
.
Yesterday's jokes went over pretty well, so maybe I'll try one more...
.'
A little boy goes to his dad and asks.."What is Politics"?
Dad says..."Well son, let me explain it so that you can understand . I am the head of the household, so I am the President. Your Mom is the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People! The Nanny? We shall call her The Working Class..And your baby brother? We shall call him the Future...Now think about that and run along".
The boy goes to bed and thinks about what his Dad has told him, and falls asleep. Later that night his Baby brother starts to screaming, and won't shut up. The baby had soiled his diapers and needed to be changed..
So the boy goes to his parents room and finds his Mom sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the Nanny's room and peeks through the door only to find his Dad in bed with her. He finally gives up and goes back to bed ...
The next day at breakfast the little boy says, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now." The father says "Excellent, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about". The little boy replies..."The President is screwing the Working Class, while The Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored, and The Future is in deep shit"!

Sunday Groanin Comin Down............

Quasimodo, the demented bell-ringer of Notre Dame, put an ad in the Paris Press for an assistant bell-ringer. One man finally applied for the job but had no arms.
"How are you going to assist me when you have no arms". Asked Quasi
"Thats easy". Replied the man, and he ran and rang the bell with with his head. BONG!!!
"Thats amazing...Could you show me that again"? Quasi asked.
"Sure!!" Said the man, and he made another run at the bell, but this time he missed the swinging bell and fell out of the bell-tower. A crowd huddled around the hapless man lying in the street, and a Gendarme asks.."Does anyone know who this man is"? Just then Quasimodo steps out from the crowd and said.." I DON'T KNOW HIS NAME, BUT HIS FACE SURE RINGS A BELL"!
.
AND ?????.....
.
The very next day after this accident, a man shows up at the Cathedral and tells Quasimodo that he is the brother of the armless man, and that he would like to audition for the vacant bell-ringers job. Quasimodo takes him up to the bell-tower, and the man then picks up the wooden mallet and starts to ring the bells. He took a huge swing, missed the bell, and fell over the balcony to his death. Same scene as yesterday!! The Gendarme asks Quasimodo who this man was, he said..."I never got his name, but he's a DEAD RINGER FOR HIS BROTHER"!!!
.
.
Having a good Week-End so far?

Friday Flash 55.......

Eiswein!!
Blood of Dionysus.
While your clustered brethren has long since been gathered, pressed, vatted, and swilled... You are still clinging to the vine. Standing your lonely vigil. Waiting to wither. Waiting to freeze!!
But from that frosty raison explodes AMBROSIA!!
Honey Of The Gods!
The ultimate gift from Nature...
To it's very undeserving offspring.
.
.
Hi everybody, this is the bottle of Heaven that my daughter brought me from Germany. It cost 45 Euro's, however much that is.
If you or anyone you know has posted a Friday Flash 55, please come tell the G-Man, I will visit, read, comment, enjoy, then BOOK!!!!
Please have a Great Week-End.

Retro Wednesday.......

Hi everybody...
Last week-end Flint hosted an event called Back to the Bricks.
Me and my friend Alex went and couldn't believe how alive our dead little city became once again!
This is the way we remembered it growing up every Friday and Saturday night, especially in the Summer. We would cruise the main drag, cruise the A&W, cruise the 'burbs', and then do it all over again...Why not? Gas was only .25 cents a gallon!
.
See ya tomorrow...

Peace..!!!

Gut Bomb Delight..........

Hi everybody!!
Have you seen this guys show on the Food Channel?..Guy Fieri??
Diners..Drive-Ins..And Dives!!
He travels around the country and visits local eateries that have a mythical reputations in their community. A few weeks back he was actually in Ann Arbor visiting this local Icon...
Krazy Jims Blimpy Burger!!!
This place has been here ever since I can remember going to the Big House for Saturday football.
It's about a mile from the stadium, but on game day it's nearly impossible to get into.
They make their burgers from fresh, NEVER frozen meat. You can get all the usual toppings on it including a fried egg and grilled onions. The buns are either a Kaiser Roll or Onion Roll, and they are ALWAYS grilled. The patties are smallish, but you can get them in doubles, triples, quads, or quints. The fries are frozen, but the onion rings are to DIE for. They are very lightly breaded, and are delishishly fried to a golden brown perfection!!
As you can see, I got a triple on a Kaiser Roll with grilled onions and just ketchup, and a side of rings. I got two doubles to go for Reese, which he scarfed down immediately upon returning home. Sorry Reese, no onion rings for you...They were good to the Last Drop!! hehehehe

Peace..!!!

12 More Days.........

Hi Everybody!! I sure had a busy and fun filled Week-End.
All of my posts this week will re-live them all...
Yesterday, my daughter wanted me to bring the carpet shampoo-er down to her in Ann Arbor, so that she could make sure that she can get her deposit back on her old apt, that she has to out of by the 19th.
Sunday also happened to be the day that the coaches and players of the U/M football team could meet the fans and sign autographs. So at 12 Noon I hightailed it over to the practice facility next to Big House and waited in line for the doors to open.
.
Pic #1. Ahhhh The Big House..Gate 10. the gate I always enter through, and have for 35 years!
2..They are adding 'Sky Boxes' around the stadium much to the chagrin af some Alumni!!
3..The line to get in...85 degree's and very muggy.
4..Inside finally!! And another hour wait till the coaches and players arrive.
5..The far line was by far THE longest line. I'd say it was over 200 yards long, and they were waiting for Michigans new coach Rich Rodriguez...as I was .
6..They were passing out these free posters , and I got several for my friends that couldn't make it with me.
7..There he is...The man himself!! By this time I had been standing in line over 3 hours in muggy heat.
8..After Rich signed my book I extended my hand and he shook it, and I said..."Congratulations coach, you now have The Greatest Job in the country." He smiled and said.."I sure do!"
.
Saturday..August 30. High Noon.....
The Tradition Continues.....GO BLUE!!!!!!!

Friday Flash 55.......

When the night comes falling from the sky.
Thats when the soul starts yearning...
When the flame of Love starts burning,
with memories of your lips.
You should be here!
With your kisses
With your arms
With your smile
With your charms.
You are always in my heart
But my arms are empty...For now!
.

If you or anyone you know has posted a 55, please come tell the G-Man.
I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, then BOOK!!!!!!
Have a GREAT Week-End....

Bike Nite Car Cruise........

Last night I went to a different Bike Nite other than Scooters.
This one was at a small bar in my old neighborhood named Porkies Clubhouse.
The reason I went there was because it was on the main drag of Flint, and a classic car auto cruise is going on all week-end. The cruise route is about 15 miles long and cars were passing by all night .. My camera phone takes shitty pics so I didn't even bother to post any more blurry cars. The first pic shows my vantage point of the oncoming traffic. Here is an interesting side note. The older building across the street to the right, is all thats left of old Fisher Body.
Fisher Body was originally called the Durant Carriage Works, it was owned by Billy Durant, who was regarded to be the founder of General Motors. My grandpa worked at Fisher for 40 years, as did most of my class-mates parents. It closed down in the mid-80's as a mfg facility, and is now a Tech Center. That too was part of the Sit-Down strike of the 1930's, that gave rise to the UAW.
The second pic is just like my very first car...A 1963 Impala! I wish I had that car now, I bought it in 1968 for 300 dollars!!
The last pic is a very nice chopper with a 1960 Chevy across the street..
See you all tomorrow for Friday Flash 55.
.
Peace..!!!

Galen Haynes.? You're Still Alive..? .....

Hi everybody!!!! I hope you had a wonderful week-end.
I sure did!!
Last night was our graduating class's 40th Reunion.
I wasn't going to go, but on Friday night there was a Pre-Reunion get together and I had such a great time that I decided to attend Saturday night as well.
WOW!!!! Am I glad I went....What an awesome time!!!
One thing about reunions is, the years have been GREAT to some class-mates, but very rough on others. Also you can't lament about how successful some people are, and gloat about the plight of the ones who have had a harder time.
The bald guy in the picture beneath me is Don Dicker.
Don and I were great friends all through Jr. High and High School. We were the 2 smartest Under-Achievers in school. I went to college, he sold cars. In the 70's he moved to California, became a huge car dealer, and eventually sold 5 stores including an Audi, a Mercedes Benz store,
a BMW, and a Chevy store....How much $$$$$ do you think he's worth? It doesn't matter, he hugged me and started jabberin like it was yesterday!
The girl below him is Patsy Edwards, she owns 2 gift shops in Jacksonville Fla.!
The pic with the 3 chicks below that? The one on the right is Debbie Golden, her daughter graduated with my daughter from the same high school, she is a Therapist. The one in the middle is Mary Ann Sullivan, she lived on my street and we have known each other since Kindergarten. The Girl on the left is Kathy Fromholtz, she owns a business in Hollister California. But check her out....She fricken looks 30!!!!!!!
The next pic is of Judy Holley, I've also known her all my life as well, and she was always so beautiful inside and out.
The last pic is of my old friend Tom Dewey, his mother was my Den Mother in the Cub Scouts!
She is still alive, and still lives in the same house..
.
.
1968 was a very tumultuous year in History.....
1..The My-Lai massacre took place in Viet Nam.
2..Martin Luther King was shot.
3..Bobby Kennedy was shot.
4. The Chicago Riots took place.
5. Congress passed a law making it a crime to desecrate the flag
6..Richard Nixon was elected President.
7..The 911 call was first introduced.
8..The end of the .05 cent Hershey Bar.
9..The Detroit Tigers won the World Series under the last year of the old format before the playoff system was implemented.
10..War protesting abounded EVERYWHERE!!!!!
Because of all this tumult and uncertainty, we were thrown together. We had no idea when the War was going to end. Racial tension was overwhelming. Revolution was in the air!!!!
So when you don't see some folks for 40 years, your heart soars when memories are rekindled!!
We sang the Colt Fight Song...
Danced to Motown..
Toasted our friends that are no longer with us..
Ogled the 'Wallflowers' that blossomed into beautiful women..
Cried over the ones that turned Very Grandmotherly..
.
For one Magical Night we were all 18 again.... And Loving It!!!
.
It was "Yummy Yummy Yummy"!!
.
Peace...Brother's and Sisters!!!!!
