Thursday Portrait.......

Once a week we go to a local Chinese takee-outee called the China Garden.
The luncheon specials are just $4.75, with 30 different combo's to choose from.
You always get pork fried rice and an egg roll, along with what ever entree you choose. Today I got the Sesame' Chicken.
They also let you substitute the egg roll for soup if you like...I like!
Especially the hot and sour soup!!
No matter what you order, or how many items you order..."Be ready TEN Minna OK"?
And another funny thing...Look at any item in front of you, pick it up, turn it upside down, does it say 'Made in China'?
These fortune cookies are made in Chicago!!! Go Figure...
Now for my fortune.."Everything will now come your way"

Retro Wednesday.........

The first time I ever attended a Major League baseball game was in 1957.
The Detroit Tigers VS. The Baltimore Orioles, at Briggs Stadium, aka. Tiger Stadium!
Throughout the years I've attended dozens of games at that hallowed park on the corner of Michigan and Trumbull.
Anyway it's now Comerica Park, but thats another story.....
If you've ever attended a game, it's a thrill if you ever get close enough to catch a baseball hit into the stands, whether it's fair OR foul.
In 1984, the last year that the Tigers won a World Series, I attended a regular season game in April. I had seats right behind the rightfield foul pole, and all ground foul balls hit down the first base line, travelled along the wall, right past me and my crazy buddy Tim Haley. The second or third time this happened he said to me..."Grab my belt in the back and do NOT let go"!
Boom...He dove over the rail head first, and grabbed a loose foul ball! I hauled his ass back into the stands, and we had our First Souvenier!
We repeated this scene three times during the game, until an usher came down and told us to quit. So I had this ball from that year, and the night they won the Pennant, I took a Sharpie and wrote the date on that foul ball to commemorate the event!
Good Times...

Happy Labor Day

I decided to make a ham and cheese pasta salad today, to accompany my ice cold watermelon, and sliced cukes and tomatoes fresh from the garden...
I should go fire up the grill now..Baby Backs. $2.98 a pound at Krogers!!!

Post Game Bliss.......

To me, Michigan's home opener in Ann Arbor is like Christmas, New Years Eve, and my Birthday all rolled into one. I've attented maybe 35 or 36 home openers in my blessed life, but the last 2 have been very disappointing to say the least.
Yesterday was a GLORIOUS day, Sunny, Low Humidity, Smooth traffic flow....
My friend Alex went with me, and we most always get to our seats about an hour and a half early to bask in the history and memories of what is The Big House!!
Three of us...Me, My friend Dave, and my friend Phil, have had seats together since our Junior year in college. My friend Phil is an Attorney in East Lansing Michigan, the home of Michigan State, which is one of U/M's arch rivals. Like myself, Phil had a daughter graduate from Michigan. While she was a student there, she married a young man who played football for the Wolverines by the name of Josh Williams. Josh played on Michigan's 1997 National Championship team, and he also played for The Indianapolis Colts for 6 seasons until an injury cut his career short. He attended this game with Phil, and he also met up with another former Wolverine Tate Chanski.
Tate is the lad giving the thumbs up, and Josh is the Goliath next to him.
You may not be able to see the score in the shadows of the stadium, but it read...

The patient immediately broke into uncontrollable sobbing...

Thursday Portrait.....

For years I didn't have a paved drive-way.
I had about 75 feet of crushed limestone between my cement approach from the road, and the cement slab in front of my garage. About 10 years ago I got the unpaved part black-topped, and every year I either seal it myself, or have it done.
Yesterday I gave specific instructions NOT to drive on it for 24 hours.
Do you see a faint outline of some tire tracks?
Some people never listen....
On my way home tonight, I stopped at a little Mid-Eastern Mkt. called Kamils. He makes the best Baba Ganush and Hommus for about 3.50 a serving.
He also has several varieties of olives available, and I got some deliciously spiced green ones. The Pita bread has this mixture of olive oil, crushed sesame and savory herbs, and garlic on top. Man is that good! Along with some packs of Sesame Snaps, the total bill came to $15.55.
$15.55??
That reminds me something, I just can't remember what.......
