i thought they had to have 77 votes to become pope.is it sacrilegious of me to want to say, "lighten up, francis!"
I'm glad they elected a South American to the papacy. Time for some changes, and I hope Pope Francis (kinda has a nice ring doesn't it?)has the vision and strength to enact them.
I still dearly miss John Paul II, but this man seems humble. Lets hope he has a spine of steel to take on the challenge ahead of him.
I wasn't impressed with Benedict. I'm skeptical, but I hope my church will one day be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

You highlight the good, his statements about gays and women would be the not so good.
I thought "lighten up, Francis," too!
God grant him many years and I am so glad he chose Francis. St. Francis is one of my favorites, as I am an animal lover.
I'd so much rather that Father Guido Sarducci was Pope!
Seems America should take a lesson on how to elect the person running our country!
