Retro-Wednesday.....
Because of the convenience of modern technology and Google, you can search and get any recipe' that your hungry tummy desires. In my opinion, that fact alone will someday make Classic Cookbooks like this obsolete!
I got the idea for this post a few weeks back because of a post by Susie over at Clean and Crazy! This 'Bible' of cooking was first published in 1975, and I've been cramming and clipping and stuffing articles and food tips in it for 30 years!!
As I was perusing the pages, I came across a couple of box covers from Land-O-Lakes Butter. Hehehehehe.....
Anyone male from the Mid-West that is over 40 years of age, knows whats coming next...
Take a sharp knife or razor blade, and cut along both sides and the bottom of the butter box that the Indian maiden is holding in front of herself.
Then fold up from the bottom of the label, about two half-inch folds.
Lift up Pocahontas' buttery flap, and see what treasures she is hiding!!
Dont'cha just Love it?
Peace...!!!

I have and hate "Joy of Cooking"- same edition you have! Too much jumping around in the book to find the complete recipe! The butter brings back mammories...HeeHeeHee..
Yeah Buff, a TRUE Michigan Man!!
mammories...lol. between the two of you...and i thought we were getting an early 55 reference...
ROFLMAO. That is so true. LOL. You clever little chief you :) My 55 will post Friday as scheduled. Hopefully Susan will remember to link it up. We shall see. But shh don't tell her I said that :)
For real?
Oh, and I need to get busy on 55. The week is slipping by.
LOL! i haven't thought of that butter trick in eons. i'm not a mid-west male but i do know that trick and it still makes me giggle.
if someone would please let me in on the secret to linking up?!? i don't know how to do it!! i can't even put a video on my blog!! and hey my book is older!! but it is crammed with other recipes too and hey does the butter still do that? i never saw it!!
lol..
I don't know how to create a hyper-link either!
But if you only have one blog, what difference does it make?
Just click on the pic!!!
I never saw anyone cut up the butter carton before -- but if I ever do, now I'll know what they're doing.:)
i didnt know
Pocahontas
had a buttery flap...
Sherry...Do they have Land-O-Lakes down there?
Lana...She has Buttery flaps!
Of course we do! We even have indoor plumbing.:)
Are you kidding? Really, that can not be true regarding the butter. Oh, now I gotta get my exacto knife and cut up the butter box. Hey, I live in a house full of men. They need to know.
btw, I had the Joy of Cooking book in the late 70's and it has been my MOST used book for 30 years. For some reason, of late...I'm making up my own recipes. I prefer to think that I'm REALLY a good cook OR, I've become lazy.Whatev
So now you have retroed the Joy of Cooking into a soft core Joy of Sex?
Well the butter comes from the cream and the milk has to come from somewhere. Now you have my mind churning.
damn. only a boy would've figured that out... hilarious!
Hey Galen, that's a late-edition Joy you've got; Irma Rombauer first published 'Joy of Cooking' in 1931 with her own money, then again in 1936, and it's been updated and revised in countless editions since, with the help of her sister and kids. I used to be a librarian for the Culinary College in Baltimore, who has a whole shelf of these things. My favourite version is from 1977, and I've worn out three copies LOL.
As to the Land o' Lakes lady... Jeez the ingenuity of adolescent males!! ROFL!!
hmmmmm, someone has too much time on their hands, lmaoooooo!!!! too funny!
What a coy maiden!
I have that "Joy of Cooking".
Naughty boys in the Mid-West need to grow up. :)
PG
G-Man -The Simpsons showed us that one way before you. As for the Jy of Cooking, I don't cook. Ever read the Joy of Sex? You could use butter in that book too *smirk* LOL
Irish Susan...
You are exactly right about 'Joy's History. This was about a 1978 printing of the 1975 edition.
Thank You Ms. Mensa...:-)
Naughty Susan....
I prefer Olive Oil!
Naughty Susan says, "ROFL!!!" Hurry up G-Man post post post. I can't hold back any longer. I need release! LOL
