Retro Wednesday....

Hi Everybody...
More retro fishing gear.
The top two pics were taken off of E-Bay.
They are the EXACT reels that I own, only mine work perfectly!
The open bait casting reel is a Shakespeare Triumph 1958. The one on E-Bay does not have a line leveler. Both of mine do!
The guy wants 35 Bucks for his...
These were the kind of reels that kids of my generation learned how to fish with. If you didn't keep your thumb on the line when you cast it out, chances are you would get what fisherman call a 'back-lash'.
Thats why reels like the Johnson Century became popular. All you had to do was push the button when you cast it out, and then just reel it in 'back-lash' free!!
The one on E-Bay is advertised as "Not always catches when retrieving"
HA!!! Mine still works perfectly...And once I even caught 17 pound King Salmon with it off the shore in Harrisville Michigan.
The E-Bay one is going for 30 Bucks...
Do you think mine are for sale?...HELL NO!!
In fact, the handles on the bait casting reel are NOT plastic. They are made out of the same material that old classic radios of the 30's were made out of...Bakelite!!
This ones for you Jimmy..AKA. 'Perchpike'.
Peace...!!!

My husband knew what they all were from the pictures. He said "cool". For me it would kinda be like you looking at pictures of shoes or something.
Happy Wednesday! jeNN

If you ever decided to sell yours, I'll bet you could get a lot more than those guys on eBay. You need to start looking for some warehouse space. Seriously!;)

This so reminds me of fishing with my grandfather when I was growing up. I remember those reels well :)

I've never been fishing but know how good it feels... Today so many people talk about meditation and serenity... Well I might ask my brother in law to lend me one of those (h'es got hundreds) and sit in front of the sea and maybe even get a fish for dinner!?
:)

Ok...I knew fishing gear but was glad for additional info!

I fished once, in the Bering Sea, and caught a fish with two eyes on one side of its face. Not pretty.

Bakelite! Patented name for one of the early man-mades..I think it was phenolic- literally cast unlike today's injection molded products.. You always manage to kick off a memory!
