I Want My...I Want My...I Want My MTV...

Hi Everybody!!...What a Ride!!...What a Day!!!
As I got lots of sun, and lots of riding, and lots of beer today, the G-Man is rather tired, and I am not well prepared for today's usual Musical Monday.....Sorry!
But I DO have some musical trivia of sorts......
Remember when you could turn on MTV and actually see a Movie Video?
It seems that you can only see them now on Premium MTV channels or in early Morning.
I Hate all these reality shows, and I hate most of their other crap. But here are a few facts
that seems like only yesterday....

MTV, went on air at Midnight, August 1, 1981. It's 1st Video was the Buggles prophetic..
"Video Killed The Radio Star"

The Average MTV viewer tunes in for only 16 minutes at a time.

MTV's VJ's have a very short shelf life, once they start looking old,
They are outta there..( Remember Martha Quinn... How about Kennedy?)

MTV reaches 75% of those households inhabited by people 18-34...
And 85% of the households with 1 Teenager!!

In 1990 MTV first aired "Unplugged".....What could have been a gimmick,
turned into a trend when Paul McCartney released his "Unplugged" appearance as an album, and it became one of his biggest selling albums. Two years later Eric Clapton did the same, and that made "Layla" a hit all over again and earned him a Grammy as well as a Platinum Record!

OK....I'm done. You guys can tell me your favorite Video if you want to.....If you can indeed remember any!.....Peace!

FYI...Mine are....
Toni Basil....."Mickey"
J. Geils..."Centerfold"
Fatboy Slim..."Weapon's of Choice"...( with Christopher Walken)
Adam Ant..."Goody Two Shoes"

And these last 2 are sorta newer
Fergie..."Fergalicious"
Amy Winehouse..."Rehab"....

I agree, if I ever want to just have some music, they´re just talking on MTV...

I remember when MTV went on the air. I loved the whole concept and was addicted to it for a while. Now, not so much. It's so different that I tune in probably only once a month or so.

First the browser crashed on me so I lost the GREAT (well good) comment I had typed then I just gave up until today. I had several I liked but it has been so long I forget if it was just the song or the video. I have to agree with you on Centerfold. Much more recently I love (but not sure if it made it to MTV or not cause I saw it elsewhere) Hey Ya. It is a silly song but it just got beat into my head. The only thing I watched MTV for recently was Spring Break to see all the fun I was missing out on. I am not a fan of reality shows either so that is out. I think they should be forced to bring back the music as that is false advertising the way it is now.

Shake it like a Polaroid picture...

My favourite videos...

1. Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
2. Wax - California
3. Madonna - Like a Prayer
4. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze
6. Beastie Boys - Sabotage
7. Metallica - One
8. Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
9. Tori Amos - Silent All These Years
10. Tool - Sober

I was sitting in front of my t.v. with my family awaiting the change of a lifetime when the Buggles aired. It was quite an electric experience.

It truly is a shame what happened to that channel. It's a shame that shows like 'Laguna Beach' are played on a channel that stands for 'Music Television.'

I Want My MTV.

I've stopped watching television.

It's too depressing.

I wish MTV still played videos. Those were the days ...

PS: I think you may get a kick outta my Musical Monday today.

That Rehab video is hot. Amy looks all skanky.

Ditto all of Strumpet's picks. They are all stellar. Mmmmmm....Tori Amos... The only thing I would add is Nine Inch Nails, Closer.

Strumpet said...

Sign,

I would add that too.

No idea how I forgot that as I speak of that song all the time.

It is the greatest love song of all time.

Period.

And Trent is one of the hottest men alive.

I would lick him from his head to his toes over and over again and still be begging for more.

I thought that Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" was cool, along with The Cars' "You Might Think."

I detest "reality TV." Cheap bastards can't even pay for actors and writers? Screw 'em, I'm not watching. Heck, put it up against reruns of Bewitched. Samantha Stevens will be a household name again.

Charles said...

ZZ Top's videos were great, too.

EBEZP said...

I have to say Michael Jackson's Thriller the full 14 minute version! Although that version was never played that much and the most unsatisfactory edit was always shown on MTV Europe of all the begining part and then 5 1/2 minutes in fade it out before the mega dance sequence!!

Rebicmel said...

Sister Christian - Night Ranger

Smoking in the Boys Room - Motley Crew

She's Got Legs - ZZ Top

Of course these are from MTV of old when it was free to watch the vid's and youth kept in tune with all the bands of old !!!!

MONA said...

I LOVE the nose twitching Samanth Steven and her Bewitched...

at least there was one good witch...

Galen I think I will write a novel on a a character called Super Bitch Witch!

Crabby said...

GASP! You were mean to Manny?

Bob loved the ZZ top videos. Girls, legs...nothing more needed for Bob.

Um.....I'm gonna say it so just go ahead an moan if you want to...I liked the Michael Jackson thriller video. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha ha!

Manny said...

OMG! I've been watching the reality shows. I even get into a couple of them.

sigh, I should probably stick to blogging.

And I've been playing all day and you haven't been around.

Well....i havent watched alot of TV in my adult life...working on it here...

I used to love those Peter Gabriel vids...he was such a weirdo...
but I like alt music, and when a band like that makes an MTV video..it sorta ends up looking forced and sorta fake...

HI GMAN IM BACCCCKKKK

cool post g-man.:)
Did you know the Buggles was really the brainchild of Geoff Downes, the keyboardist and writer of the band?
He later went on to form a fairly well known band....ASIA.
I think the Beatles were doing video type things long before MTv but they just didn't realize it.

Strumpet said...

I LOVE ASIA!

We all live in a Yellow Submarine!!

The things I would do to Trent Reznor. Gotta go take a cold shower after reading your comment, Strumpet.
