Name Game Tuesday.....

Hi Everybody.....
With the passing of Hollywood Icon Shirley Temple yesterday, it reminded me of
one of the many things that she became famous for. First on the list was her very
name itself...Shirley.
Prior to her rise to stardom as a four year old legend in the 1930's, Shirley was a
man's name! That got me thinking about other names that have crossed-over to the
opposite gender. In the 50's our family had a friend that we called Bev, his real name
was Beverly. Vivian was also a man's in the 19th century. Other former men's names
that have become predominately female are Carol, Taylor, and Hilary as well.
Of course there are the dual names like Leslie, Kim, Lee, Bobbi, Sammi etc.
Does anyone out there know of any others?

Terry is a unisex name. I didn't know that Shirley used to be generally a male name. I had an Aunt Shirley. The woman had a myriad of health problems, yet lived well into her 80s.
Chip is another name that can be male or female. I once knew a woman who spelled it Khip, which, quite honestly, drove me nuts, because I always wanted to pronounce it as Kip.
Shirley Temple was certainly a different breed than the starlets of today. She was modest, good-natured, and didn't really care about stardom. I'm sorry to hear of her passing.

Some that I can think of are that used to be male but now female - Ashely, Kelly, Shannon, Jody, Courtney, Leslie.

There are a number of nicknames that can be either like Sam, Chris, Joe, Nick, Tony.
