Monday Munchies.....

For those of you that were not raised in a state or a household
that Deer Hunted as a Rite of Passage into the Winter.....
This post is not for you!
My good friend and co-worker Larry Lewis, is a a modern day Hiawatha.
He hunts deer with a Bow, with a shot-gun, with a rifle, and a muzzle-loader.
He usually harvests about 2-5 deer a  season.
Sometimes he needs to cull out his freezer of the venison from the previous
season. Often I am the lucky recipient of that bounty!!
This year Larry bestowed upon me the epitome of Meatly Cuisine....
The Tenderloin. Otherwise known as...The Back-Strap!
Cut into about 1 inch thick medallions, slightly dusted with seasoned flour,
Flash fried in a HOT skillet that you just carmelized some onions in for about
2 minutes a side, then set atop the onions to rest for about 5 minutes....
HEAVEN!!!!
You can have your Angus Beef, your Kobe Beef, or any other kind of Red Meat
pretenders....This to me is the ULTIMATE in Carniverous Dining.
Each tender morsel literally melts in your mouth. A toothless Moonshiner from
the hills would have no trouble eating these tiny treasures!!!!!
The top pic is the finished platter, the next pic is a Back-Strap Slider, the last
pic is what was left after me and Reese chowed down.
The Slider...?
The Best Thing EVER!!!!!!!!

We're getting a little venison this year and I asked for the back strap in particular, so thanks for the prep tips. Looks and sounds divine. Better on my plate than across the hood of my car....

Mmmmmmm. . . back strap. . .

Jen's brother got a deer this year. His wife refuses to eat or cook venison, so he gave all the meat to us. We made the sacrifice to take it off his hands for him. Just for fun, he had some of it processed into brats and breakfast sausages, which I'd never had before. Man, was that good!

We actually get more of it turned into burger than most folks would, but (as I'm sure you know), there is nothin' like a good venison chili. . .

My family(parents) didnt hunt deer....But we did eat pheasant. Mr Gab on the other hand did all that so when we got married I was introduced into a whole new world of meats. Although he hasnt done any deer hunting himself we have family willing to share.
