TMI Tuesday.....
So...
You wanna be a writer eh?
Then I have a few interesting tid-bits for you.
Less than ONE percent of all books published sell
50,000 books or more!
The youngest published author is Virginia's
Dorothy Straight who wrote "How the World Began"
(Pantheon,1964) when she was just 4 years old.
The Best-Selling novel of all time is Dicken's
"Tale of Two Cities", which has sold over 200
Million copies. "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R.
Tolkien has sold about 150 Million.
Catch-22 Never appeared on any Best-Seller list.
In Herman Melville's lifetime, "Moby Dick" sold
less than 10 Thousand copies!
Washington Irving was the First American to earn
a living SOLELY by writing.
'USA Today' has the largest daily circulation of
any US newspaper with 2.5 Million.
"Gone With the Wind" was the only novel that Margaret
Mitchel had published.
Lewis Carroll, Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, Earnest
Hemingway, Thomas Jefferson, and George Sand....
All wrote while standing up!
Now Mr. Knowitall is going to sleep laying down...Peace!

Now you've got me wondering just exactly how DOES a four year old think the world began? I'll have to go and find that book. Fascinating, G-Man. As always, I learned something new.
I concur...THAT would be an interesting read for sure!
Interesting tidbits indeed. I had no idea Mr. Melville's novel did so poorly during his lifetime or that a 4-year-old could write a book (fiction or non-fiction?). How does that happen?!
right...i need to start standing up...smiles.
yea, what titanium said...
Absolutely fascinating...
perhaps I should write standing up. Burn more calories?
The Black Whale hat I always wear was the true account of the whale Melville fashioned Moby Dick after. seeing as the whale sunk the ss Essex I think maybe 10,000 copies was not bad for a semi literate, superstitious society.
I could write standing up but I'd have to be on massive amounts of hallucinogens to do it.
I sometimes paint and draw standing up- and if I am making a poster....
thanks for the info!
I plan to be very famous after I'm dead . . .
I don't WANT to be a writer. I just can't help myself!
GALEN ! (((HUGS)))
