..TOMATO HAIKU..
Beautiful Nightshade
Crimson Jewell of the Garden
Delicious Delight!!!
.
When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot.
Like most everyone in our neighborhood, we had a garden.
My favorite sandwich was a sliced tomato, white bread, and Miracle Whip!
(Next to a peanut butter and bacon sandwich that is.)
But right now whilst the tomato's are in their delicious GLORY....
It almost makes me feel like a kid again again!!
I've combined Retro Wednesday with the very talented group of writers over at One Stop Poetry....
If you wish to play, post a poem of any length and format on your blog, and visit them HERE. And then sign up on their Mr. Linky.
It's fun and challenging, give it a try.
See Ya Tomorrow....Peace!!!

We're enjoying our tomatoes, too. My favourites are the little cherry tomatoes - MMM!
PS - Yahtzee! :)
dang it, i will beat me...at some point...smiles. you are right up my alley this week G! love me some tomato sandwiches...my great uncle taught me to make them just like you said and we would eat them on the porch and watch the day...happy oneshot!
Tomatoes give me acid reflUx and miracle whip us crappy tasting. How are them apples? LOL
I love tomato sandwiches and your haiku is tasty too. Thank you for introducing me to one shot through this post.
nothing like a vine ripe, home grown tomato. i like to slice em up and sprinkle them with pepper. mmmm....
Nothing like a juicy 'mater sandwich in the summertime. Mmmmm. Hey, is Hillbilly bread for real? I want some!:)
i think i got 4 tomatoes out of 8 plants this year. not sure what went wrong...
ahhhh, yes. Tomato season. My favorite is toasted bread, tomato, cheese and mayo. But, all the better w/ bacon and lettuce too.
I like tomato and cucumber sandwiches
Your tomato haiku had me grinning, G-Man. A freshly picked tomato is one of the garden's greatest gifts. And I like mine sliced, salt 'n pepper, mayo on toasted whole wheat. Yum!
Cheese and tomato toastie - yummy!
agh- -you shouldn't use Miracle Whip LIGHT for those tomato - you need the full fat rich one for enjoying the whole taste!!!
My surname was Kraft (which means power) before i got married - and we always used the Kraft foods lettering for our doorbells....smiles
enjoyed your poem!
Peanut Butter and Bacon. You are an Odd Ball arent you?
Our tomatoes are still yellow. I think they're all going to ripen at once and I'll be cooking relish and tomato soup and making sandwiches and possibly even bathing in them if they do!
Your haiku would make the crimson jewel blush. Beautiful nightshades indeed. Aren't you just a constant surprise. I would play at One Stop but with riding the poetry bus this week and all I have too much on my plate. But I had to stop and comment on your nightshade haiku.
Yellow tomato's are kinder to my stomach,
but any way- the sandwich w/ kraft mayo
cheese and basil- yum!
Going to try the peanut butter/bacon combo. Like how you describe the tomato as a gift from the garden—well said in haiku form. Happy One Shot, G!
Glad the tomato isn't retro
Never tire of a fresh tomato sandwich
thanks for going retro with One Shot

Love tomatoes and the haiku, but the poisonous nightshade threw me for a loop. I guess they were known as poisonous love apples in the middle ages!
delicious Hauku...
tomato is both vegetable and fruit...
I used to eat it as fruit, which means eat them fresh and raw, it is among the healthiest food, besides apples, watermelons, and grapes...
I mean Haiku,
u r highly cool...
Yum! Beautiful and tight. Nice haiku. Thanks.
Ahhh, sandwich memories. Mine was always grilled cheese, sliced pimento filled olives (when we could afford them) with a splash of Ketchup. Mom called them pizza sandwiches. Great One Shot, G.
G-Man
Thanks for the kind words, you make me blush...
Love tomato sandwiches -- or just plain eating them like a fruit, with either a sprinkle of salt or sugar, right off the vine. Yum.
So fun makes me smile thinking about the simple pleasures.
cheers,
Joanny
that was ripe!!!!! gotta try peanut butter and bacon though..now that does sound like a sandwich..great haiku..cheers pete
Hay, I still love that sandwich. And you will think me odd (oh, wait you already know that!), but try a peanut butter ans sliced dill pickle sandwich sometime. Yum! And totally worthy of a haiku.
I could just bite right into that tomato on my screen. It looks perfect.
Hillbilly bread? Cute!!
PG
Some things are just perfect and cannot be improved upon, though I've got to say, Talon's sandwich sounds really good, too!
My cherry tomatoes are ok, but the rest of my crop are not as delish this year as you describe in your verse.
and scald me as evil incarnate but I just DON'T DO Bacon! I know. I have been told that I cannot be a real Canadian, as I don't even truly enjoy peameal bacon. My sandwich would have to be the tomato kind (hand me some of izzy's basil) or peanut butter & banana.
oh, and high five to Me!
One of my favorite sandwiches I made up as a very young adult was a bagel half with cream cheese, kalamata olive spread and a slice of tomato. Heaven. But I also like them warm and dusty off the vine.
Yummy!!!!
Jewel of the garden indeed! Except for those seeds, I enjoy tomatoes... slurp!!
This was a super tribute to them all, G.. :)
Here is my one shot.. just in case.. ;-)
yummy post
