Retro-Wednesday......

Hi Everybody...
Once again I must apologize for pulling a Houdini these past few days.
I've been quite busy this week, and I just don't have much blogging energy when I get home. Plus my Ass is sore from sitting on stitches....Grrrrrrr
But forget about that horsehit, here comes Mongo!....Er sorry. Errant movie line!
But forget about my problems, on with Retro Wednesday!

Remember when most kitchen pantry items were made of either glass or tin? The first two pics are off the internet showing what a couple of Bouillon tins looked like from the 40's and 50's. My Wyler Tin is dated 1956, sorry for the blur.
This is a classic example of how families that lived during the depression, utilized all reusable items. My grandmother would use these tins for either holding tooth picks for camping trips, or to hold stick matches. They were air and water tight, and as you can see, they have stood the test of time for years!
The last pic is the open tin lying on my Publishers Clearing House Winning 10 Million Dollor Lucky Number!!!
But really....What would you rather have? A vintage bouillon tin...Or a vintage pipe dream?
See Ya Tomorrow...
Peace!!!

though by the looks of the tin if you did have the original bouillon it would still be good to use!!

Your post made me think about tins and one that hasn't left us is a tin for Bag Balm and now there's a miniature tin that they didn't have when I was a kid.
Weird connection I know but hey, I figured you'd understand. jeNN

Honestly can bouillon, which is compacted to the point of being the same consistency as concrete ever really go bad?

But yeah the tins are always recyclable for buttons and nails and toothpicks and found snail shells.

LOL...I thought they would open and you would have the original cubes! They just don't make things like they used to. That's why I'm so special :P

I used to like the tins of Nivea cream and also the the ones that held black currant pastilles that I used to buy in Switzerland.

NOw wouldn't that have been a coo if your toothpick holder was from 1955! Oh, but wait it is only Wed. :/

I love old tins...have a few myself. I have 2 that I really love...one is of the Queen Mother and the other with Princess Di and Prince Charles.

I love this retrospective! You are so right about the past: a time when things were not so disposable - where everything was recycled and reinvented, continuing to hold some sort of value. Makes one think...

My grandma saved everything. She recycled bread bags. She made us put our feet into them before putting our winter boots on. Kept our feet warm and dry.

I hope that all is well with your and your derriere these days! :)

My mom has a few tins and my favorite is the Nestle Toll House Cookie one.

Stay warm darling!

Very good post! Ask yourself.. how many Cool Whip containers do you have in your kitchen cabinets? Empty coffee cans were made for spare bolts, nuts, and screws... I use Mason jars for darn near everything- but people never return them! I buy bullion cubes from Sam's or Gordon Foods- and they still come in handy!
