What Cha Doin?

I've had many jobs in my life. My first real job was when I was 15 yr's old, I worked at an ammunition reloading store melting down lead, and casting bullets for police municipalities. I worked my way through college working 2 or 3 different jobs at a time until graduation.
With my degree, I got on a civil service register, and worked for several agencies. I have worked as an employment counselor, a clerk for the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, and a counselor at a prison.
There have been other jobs that are too numerous to mention.
I have been selling cars at this same dealership for nearly 20 years. The original owner, who passed away 10 ago, was a wonderful man. He was honest, taught us selling integrity, and treated us like family. The car business has provided me a good living, allowed me to travel to some great places, and given me job flexability second to none.
I always tell people that I have a B.S. in Sociology, attended graduate school in Canada, and now have a job that a high school drop-out can do!.....But I can tell you this, not once in my 20 yr's at this dealership, have I NOT wanted to come to work. I meet a diverse and interesting cross section of society, drive great cars, and truly help and advise people with their automotive needs.
In short, I love my job, I love coming to work, I love helping people..........
What I want to know from you is.......

1.) Do you like your job?

2.) What was your favorite/worst job?

3.) What would you rather be doing?

If you don't work by choice or retirement, please let me know about that too.

Remember, we are all spokes in the great wheel of life!..........G-Man!

Great post Galen....
1) Love the work I do...right now I am looking for that "perfect" job. Working for the registry has it's ups and downs. I did have the perfect one though until the Dr. sretired 3 years ago. I worked for them for 8 years. We were a family.
2) Worst job was with an Orthopaedic Group. I quit after 3 1/2 hours. I knew the moment I got there it was a mistake.
3) I would rather be traveling the world and learning other cultures. Ever since Tahiti 3 years ago and learning about their Islands, it really drew an interest in me.

Hey....guess what....I'M FIRST!!! Woooohooooooo

Sequin, You are already accomplished. ( btw glad your NOT dead)

Thank you both for responding.

1.) Do you like your job? Yes, very much. I get to be creative and very little of my job is repetative. I can also make my own hours.

2.) What was your favorite/worst job? Most people would think that the years I spent on the farm would have been bad with all the pig shit I shoveled. Strangely, I loved that job too. The worst was right after the oldest was born, I decided to get a job delivering pizzas. After driving like a maniac in the pouring rain to get the food there on time and receiving a 2 cent tip, I decided that it was a stupid idea. I left and never got paid for the hours I worked.

3.) What would you rather be doing? My dream was to become a doctor. It's a little late for that so maybe someday, I will finish my nursing degree.

I think it's awesome that you love your job. It really makes life easier. You are a good guy, Galen.

jillie said...

It most definitely is. You can go anywhere you want without leaving the comforts of your own home ;o)

Jillie, #1..

I second Jillie, Awesome that you love your job, but I will forever picture you in a polyester lesiure suit now...HAHAHA!!!

I do love my job, but it is not my dream. I fell into this line of work which is Accounting and Collections. Not personal collections, I could never ever due that, but business/corporate collections. I really love it cuz I get a great deal of satisfaction out of collecting past due invoices and I get a ton of praise from all the right people, I work directly for the COntroller and the owner/president of the company. the whole place is one big family and I adore everyone here. My worst job had to be waitressing, I hated it...if a customer was rude to me I was rude right back, that only lasted one summer. I would rather have my own design business or photog studio, I have a degree in design and only used it for a short time designing Western Shirts in Dallas Texas, it was a dream job that I miss, but I left to get married and have babies. I would not go back and change a thing though.

1. I hate my fucking job.

2. My favourite job was deejaying. My least favourite was managing for Corner Bakery

3. I'd rather be writing.

You in a leisure suit...LMAO and don't forget the white shoes to go with it and the comb over!

Ok...I'm going shack wacky today!!

I found out that I DO need surgery on my foot...bummer!!!!!!

Oh well...I guess when I trip and fall off a curb I do it good.

Jodes said...

oh no jillie - not surgery...you want me to be your nursemaid?

1. I love what I do...when paperwork, meetings and uncompensated time don't take away from TEACHING. I try to ignore directives unless I HAVE to follow them so that I can work with my kids. I love the BAD ones the best. Honest.

2. Worst job...I worked at a video store for a while when I was in high school. The old letch who owned the place sexually harassed me. He was a dumb fuck. I also worked in an ice cream parlor. That SUCKED because of the milk smell...but I MORE than compensated my friends with FREE ice cream!

3. I'd rather be able to CHOOSE to work rather than NEED to work. I also wish that I could have on-site daycare so that I could see Buddha much more than I do right now. If I could have ANYTHING, I think I'd like to be able to use photography to make a living.

PS
Can ya get a bitch a new ride? I love my Explorer but am open to whatever gift you wish to bestow upon moi! *snicker*

Manny said...

OK I'll try again. My first comment didn't post.

I love what i do now.

Dry cleaners, I worked one shift and told them I wouldn't be back.

I am independently wealthy. I work by choice.

I have a question for you. Do you actually look at the odometer before filling out a Federal Odometer Disclosure, or do you guess and hope the BMV will correct it later?

Another question. Do the dealers in Michigan collect a documentation fee? If so, how much?

Oh, here's another. Is Michigan a NMVTIS State?

G-Man said...

Thank you Jodes for sharing that with me.
You were not lucky, you deserve your success.
Also a family beats a job anyday!

Chandra, I bet you were a ROCKIN DJ...
And you ARE writing, and quite well I might add!
Sorry you hate your job, but even though you do, I know you are awesome at it..Thanks Honey...G

BG, Thank you for sharing so much of your life. I think you are very funny and talented. Two scoops please.E-Mail me about the car.

Manny, I knew you loved your job, Because you told me so, and I do listen intently when you command.
Yes we ACTUALLY check the miles...and yes a doc fee is collected.
The type of purchase determines the doc fee..
Dang, is this a test?
Cause I don't know what the abbreviations are.
Thanks Baby!

you are a blessed man to be so happy in your job.

1. i'm an at home mom. i am quite content to be so however, economics will likely force me into the work arena soon. i'm certified as a special ed teacher but so is my hubby and after watching what he's been through in the last 13 years in the local schools and the way the field has changed, i'm not so sure that's what i want to do.

2. worst job was working in a nursing home laundry while i was in college. i enjoyed being able to visit with the patients a little when i delivered their laundry or on breaks but the laundry room had 3 HUGE gas dryers and got up to over 100 degrees. also, the soiled sheets were.....well, vile. *shudder*

3. when i have to go back to work i'd really like to either be in a library or get paid to blog. hahahaha

lime said...

oops forgot my favorite....i loved working at a special ed camp. i actually posted about that job a few months ago

NMVTIS

National Motor Vehicle Titling Information system

For state that are online with it, it collects all brands and theft hit's.

I think there may be 14 states live and another 8 to 12 on pilot.

Well I used to love my job. I worked at a nursing home with the alheizmers unit. Then I hurt my back....but not at work. I did it lifting my handicapped sister out of my car. So no more work for me. My first real job was a candy stripper at a hospital and I worked the gift shop. I was destined to become a cashier. Until of course I fulfilled my desire to be a nurse. Well Ok I actually didnt get to finish school after my accident but I was close enough and that made me happy!

G-Man said...

Yay! Sequins NOT dead!

Gabby the candy stripper, I like that.

Jillie was a candy stripper too?

I got called into work today on my day off....it was worth it though ,Sold a 2007 Corvette YES!!

Spoony Quine said...

` Does a candy stripper strip for candy?

jillie said...

They give sponge baths...LOL
No just teasing you.....I know not nice.

They're the ones that paint the stripes on the candy canes!

Ok...Yes I am being a smart ass.

2007 vet...KEWL...what color? I drove a 63 split back a few years ago. Original baby blue. What fun....VAAARRRROOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!

G-Man said...

For that Jillie, you HAVE to click on Sequins site and first listen to her song, in her profile...Then give the true version of Candy Striper..
Although she is smarter than both of us put together.

Black on Black..$56,000.00 Yikes!

jillie said...

Ooohh...black...that is my fav color for a car or the silver gray.
SLEEK!

I don't think there is ANYONE smarter than me. Oh wait...I'm confused...I meant smartass!!!!

Jillie, I got a gift card for Barnes & Noble, I'm headed that way for a while.

Manny said...

Wow! a 2007 Corvette, in the middle of winter! You must be one smooth talker. Wait...Those things probably just sell thelmselves don't they?

Either way...Great job g.

G-Man said...

Thank you so much for that vote of confidance.
I suppose I must endure your rath for a while?
I can't help it if you are so beautiful, Jeez!

Spoony Quine said...

` Candy canes don't need to be striped - they're actually layers of red and white candy that are twisted up. So ptth!

G-Man said...

See, I told you she was smart!

Cha Cha said...

It was the middle of the night, I got to play whatever I wanted.

It rocked.

I say...

I don't care much about candy cane production, but if we're gonna talk about a group of hotties who disrobe solely for the sake of sweets....

I'm in.

Just take pictures, ladies.

And then send them to me.

I have to say that I am picturing quite a lovely, little Wonka-esque number in my head of Ms. Jillie and Ms. Gabby giving each other sponge baths to the tune of Bow Wow Wow's 'I Want Candy.'

And trust me, girls, if I were watchin y'all...you'd find much happier returns for your efforts than a two-dollar bill.

=P

xoxo, Galen

GAB said...

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

I don't have a worst job, always liked what I did.
I love being a registered nurse. Don't want to be anything else.
I want to get my pilots license some time.
