If it's Wednesday, it must be time for "Ask Mr. Knowitall"...But be careful, he's still on a food roll!

Dear Billy...During WWII, the U.S. Govt. wanted an easy to carry powdered orange juice for soldiers in the field. They commissioned the Minute Maid Co. to develope it, the the effort only succeeded a few weeks before the war ended. The powder was never produced, but an interesting by-product of the research resulted! They discovered that the O.J. could be concentrated and frozen. When the war was finally over, they took advantage of the discovery, and marketed it.

A Mr. Burr Gerking of Cincinnati Ohio asks..."Dear Mr. Knowitall, Has religion ever played a part in what people eat at a fast food restaurant?"

Dear Burr...In the early 60's, the McDonalds in your home town lost sales every Friday because of the large population of Catholics that refused to eat meat on that day. The local franchise owner appealed to Chairman Ray Kroc to expand his menu. Krok eventually gave in and started research into a suitable non-meat addition to it's menu. Krok researchers decided to use Cod, but did not call it that for 2 reasons. 1) They COULD legally call it North Atlantic Whitefish, and 2) Krok's childhood memories of cod-liver oil were too unpleasant. After test marketing the fish sandwich, the first successful Non-Burger entree, was put on the menu permanately in 1963..

A Hooker by the name of "Action Jackson" from Columbus Ohio asks..."Hi Baby, (licks lips) are you MY lifesaver"?

Ms. Jackson...No I'm NOT!!! But in 1912, a Cleveland candymaker named Clarence Crane decided to make a mint to sell in the Summer. Until then, most mints were imported from Europe. Crane figured he could cut the price by making them in the U.S. He had the candy manufactured by a pill-maker. But the machinery would only work if it punched a hole in the middle of each candy. So Crane cleverly called the mints...LifeSavers!!

TMI Tuesday.........

Every Monday at the KFC in Fenton Mi. where I work, They have those delicious Pot Pies for $2.49 apiece...On Tuesday, they have A complete 'Chicken Fried Steak' meal for $1.99. And on Wednesday, you get an 8 piece Original Deal Meal for $10 Bucks..My favorite though is 'Extra Crisp'...
When Colonel Sanders started selling chicken in the 50's he was 65 years old. He used his $105.oo SSI check to travel around the country with his recipe's of 11 herbs and spices that anyone can find on their kitchen shelf, and sold franchises around the country. His only goal, was to make $1000.00 a month. In 1964, he sold the rights to more than 600 restaurants for a cool Two Million Dollors!!! Plus he was retained as the spokesman.
He did this for several years, but after he sold the company, he was NOT particularly fond of the product that was being put out. He called the 'Extra-Crispy' chicken..."A damn fried doughball on a stick", and he said that the KFC gravy tasted like.."Pure wallpaper paste"!!
By then the Heublein Company owned the franchises, and they sued the Colonel(Unsuccsesfully) for libel!! And they were paying him $250,000. a year to make appearances!
In 1986, Heublein sold KFC to Pepsico for 840 Million Bucks!
Colonel Sanders lived to be 90 years old...This stuff must be good for you!!!

...On a side note, it was said that on his 'death-bed' Colonel Sanders whispered..." I have a confession to make..there were never 11 herbs and spices in the recipe', the secret ingredient was...was....was....chicken shit"!!!

Sunday Morning Coming Down......

Hi Everybody!!! I trust you all had a wonderful Holiday. Yesterday, I received an IM message from the beautiful and caring Mona, as always, she was concerned about my absence from blogging and commenting, and I simply expained that I have been very busy of late. That is indeed a true statement, and it started with the Michigan/Ohio State Football Game!

Of course there was not a whole lot for ME to say about that game, so I just stewed and sulked in private. Then there was Thanksgiving week, and I knew that I would be hosting the event, and if done right, always takes a lot of preparation and time. Plus to top it all off, we have been quite short-handed at work lately because of 'Deer Hunting'!!

In Michigan, November 15th is always 'opening day', and it lasts till November 30th. Let me explain something to you.....At the height of the Viet-Nam War, America had 425,000 armed troops in Nam. On opening day in Michigan, there are 750,000 armed hung-over people in the woods!!! 75% of the men seem to vanish into thin air!!

So anyway, we have been in need of extra help at work, so we all have been working 'doubles' to make sure the floor is covered. I apologize to all my faithful and loyal readers who keep visiting my putrid posts, and I don't seem to acknowledge you individually. That is not usually my style, and I am going to make a strong effort today to atone for my lack of presence.....

I can hear rumblings in the house, and soon they will be screaming for FOOD!!! I think I'm going to use my left-over mashed potatoes, grate an onion, add some flour and eggs, and make some delicious Latke's (potato pancakes for the goy's and shiksa's). They are best served with a dollop of sour cream and/or applesauce!!!
