I was gonna just post about my Old Hickory, very worn and used, Bowie Knife. The top pic is what it should look like in pristine condition. The top knife is a 9 inch blade, mine is a 13 inch blade. (NOT a metalurgical anatomical metaphor I assure you). This knife has been in my family as long as I can remember, and the handle is taped, and the blade is corroded. But it has hacked through many many items too numerous to mention.
Then I noticed that I set it on top of an old Aladdin Lunch Box from the 50's! Aladdin was an American Lunch novelty Co. Home anchored in Memphis Tennessee. This was a DisneyLAND themed box. Not Disneyworld!! This box pre-dates Disneyworld by about 12 years.
It's handle is missing, but it perfectly stores a couple of fishing reels and some line.
Thanks for stopping by....
Peace...!!!
Both look rather pathetic and rusty...sentimental value, perhaps. I think the knife is dangerous, not just as a mortal weapon but because of its unsafe condition.
ReplyDeleteThe stuff you hang on to never ceases to amaze me.:)
ReplyDeleteCarmen...Just like me!
ReplyDeletePathetic, Rusty, And Dangerous!!
I'm here for your amazement Miss Begotten...:-)
DisneyLAND Rules!!!! Awesome lunch box.
ReplyDeleteHey, YOU are not pathetic...perhaps a bit rusty and I'm not sure about dangerous!!! You are a bit of a nut, I'm sure, but, then, that is what makes you so interesting!

My son would love that knife. You'll appreciate this about his vintage machete:

both those items have seen a lot of life i can tell!
ReplyDeleteThat's a straight carbon knife- I've got a few! They take a nice edge, but lose it kind of fast..it was the first kind of tool steel there was- a water quenched product, hard on the edge, softer back further...
ReplyDeleteu scarce me with that knife...
ReplyDeletethanks for the fun!
Your house must be huge for you to be able to keep all that stuff! :0
ReplyDeleteLittle mermaid in Aladdin's world!
ReplyDeleteI tell you that is a fake!
Little mermaid in Aladdin's world!! I tell you that box is a fake!
ReplyDeleteI was to Disneyland when I was four years old back in 1974! My favorite ride was the Pirates of the Carribean. Hmmmm I guess I've always had a thing for adventurous men and knives.....no wonder my husband says I make him nervous....
ReplyDeleteThat's one gnarly knife, G-Man! Looks kinda like a mini-machete.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I’ve issued a Poetry Challenge, if anyone is interested.

I should post a picture of my knife. It's not retro though.
