Friday Flash 55......

With Christmas 3 days away, he had one more gift to buy.

For weeks he walked ditches, and scrounged trash barrels.

Bottle deposits were only 2 cents in 1957.

Finally, he had 50 bottles!

When he went to the Dime Store with his dollar, this was all he could afford.

It was Grandma's favorite present....

.

If you or anyone you know has written a Friday Flash 55, please come tell the G-Man.

I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, Then Book!!! So from the most gracious host from coast to coast, have a Wonderful Week-End.

Peace...!!!

  1. Oh, it's a little ceramic doggie -- which is way better than a ceramic zebra. And ... you still have it. Of course, you do.:)

  2. A truly beautiful 55, G-man.

I've posted two this week, but they're nowhere near as seasonal or moving as yours.

    Great job!

  3. Bottles didn't fetch much more than that in 1967 either. Maybe a nickel.

Probably the best gift Grandma ever got.

Well played sir. Well played indeed.

I managed to scrape up 55 words this week despite everything. Just finished them matter of fact.

  5. You know it is those simple little things that usually mean the most. Great 55. They had deposits back in 57? I had no idea. Of course that was the year I was born so I suppose I wouldn't know.

  9. Imagine three eight year-olds finding an empty case of long neckers worth 48 cents+ twelve cents for the box... we didn't know what to buy first, the limo, or the yacht...

  13. Hi, Galen. Sweet story. When I was 16, I had no money to buy my boy friend a birthday present. I saved pop bottles and sold them to the local grocery store. Made enough to buy a bottle of after shave lotion.

    Mine is up! D

  15. Awwwww! Puppy collie doggie!!! I used to want to cry too when I heard Timmy yell "Lassie!" I don't know why. Maybe I wanted her to come when I called? That would explain why I used to yell "F**ker! Here F**ker!" whenever I felt betrayed.

OMG that's so screwed up I did NOT just type that. Or at least I did NOT just untype it.

At least now I have peoples of various types not to mention a Bloodfang kitty Violet cat and a Teddy Bear Kitty Bright Vada cat! (She's Bright Vada colored!)

Oh no, must suppress urge to say: "Wow, did there used to really be dime stores, Grampa?" :D

This is what happens when I mix chocolate peppermint VitaSoy with coffee.

And yes I did like the Flash 55. Were you the bottle scrounger?
